“It was my first time to have a dental cleaning, and all my fears have been put to bed, thanks to the professionalism of the practitioners.”- Mrs Emmanuella Ahinakwa
Dental care is easy to postpone when the working week is full. A problem may receive attention only when discomfort starts affecting concentration, eating or sleep.
Bringing care into the workplace changes that first step. Staff can receive an oral-health screening, ask practical questions and understand whether follow-up is needed without first having to navigate a separate clinic visit.
For Beaver Foundation, that is the purpose of preventive outreach: meet people where they are, make useful health information easier to act on and connect anyone with more complex needs to appropriate continuing care.
Across the five-day programme, the team created a simple pathway for FDA staff:
screening → consultation → preventive care where indicated → education → referral when needed
Participants received oral-health check-ups and one-to-one consultations. Where appropriate, Beaver Dental clinicians provided scaling and polishing. The team also discussed effective brushing, cleaning between the teeth and the role of everyday food choices in protecting oral health.
Practical oral-care information was shared with staff, while dental-care items including toothbrushes and floss were made available during the programme.
The outreach moved from site to site during the working week. That created a real logistical test: people still had jobs to do, equipment had to travel and some staff could only step away for a limited time. Yet the rotating format made it possible to bring the same preventive message to teams at four different FDA workplaces.
“We are deeply grateful for the free dental screening.” - Mr Obed Agyemang
“The experience from this year's dental outreach far exceeds that of last year. We hope to have you guys back next year.” - Mrs Fafa Amegah
Their feedback reflected two different forms of impact: immediate access to care and growing confidence in workplace wellness as something worth repeating.
- 109 people participated
- 108 received an oral-health screening
- 56 received scaling and polishing
- 18 were referred to Beaver Dental for further assessment or treatment
- 5 days of workplace oral-health activity
- 4 FDA locations reached: Headquarters, Airport, Food Laboratory and Tema Harbour
An outreach is most useful when it does more than identify a problem.
Participants who needed further dental intervention were referred to Beaver Dental for follow-up. This created a route from workplace screening to more comprehensive assessment and treatment, rather than leaving people with findings but no clear plan.
It also showed what a workplace wellness partnership can do well: make the first contact convenient while preserving continuity for care that requires a fully equipped clinical setting.
Beaver Foundation looks forward to continuing its collaboration with the Food and Drugs Authority and exploring future opportunities for regular oral-health checks and education for staff.
The lessons from the week will help strengthen future workplace programmes too - from planning around staff availability to moving teams and equipment efficiently between sites.
For the 18 people referred, the next step is individual: complete the recommended assessment and agree on a care plan suited to their needs.
If your company or public institution is planning an employee-wellness programme, Beaver Foundation can help design an oral-health activation built around screening, practical education and clear referral pathways.
